So how did it go? Did you get something which was just what you always wanted?
Christmas Day has happened once again. For many a joy, for many a relief. A day for families for some and loneliness for others. A day for memories. A day for both comfort and joy (hopefully).
A day when God took on the form of a person, a person whose life and death and resurrection would change the world. It is a remarkable event – albeit the meaning of which is largely lost in our 21st century society. Jesus’ life and death and resurrection continue to change the lives of many: whoever we are and whatever we have been through – whether we realise it or not, believe it or not.
There again, some may feel like an unwrapped present. Pushed to one side; paper ripped at the corners after the rush to be well-presented; sellotape barely holding things together; left wondering about what there is inside.
Within all the things that have gone on in the last days, weeks and months, we can, however, present ourselves as a gift to God.
A present to which God will quite generously and seriously, say ‘Just what I’ve always wanted.’
Because you are, we all are, just what God has always wanted.
